Barker Lemar Hosts Blood Drives to Support Community

For the past 7 years, Barker Lemar Companies has welcomed the LifeServe Blood Centers’ mobile donation bus to their corporate offices in West Des Moines, Iowa.  This past Thursday, 10 employees rolled up their sleeves for the first of three blood drives scheduled for 2019.

Dani Bowlin, Health and Safety Coordinator at Barker Lemar, assists the scheduling and coordination of the blood drives, “it is evident that our employees see the importance of saving lives through the gift of a blood donation. They feel good about helping people in community, and participation continues to grow for each event.”

Many Barker Lemar employees, including Mark Mayhew a Senior Environmental Analyst and long-time donor, take the time to climb aboard the bus to donate. “I was inspired to regularly donate blood after I saw a news article where a veteran had set a record at a Blood Center in Colorado by donating 50 gallons of blood.” Mayhew said.

“It’s the long-time donors that keep the momentum of the company sponsored drives going, but it is also our first-time donors, that sign up for each event, which gives us pride in the program,” adds Bowlin. “It is a comfortable, fast, and fun experience. We look forward to welcoming LifeServe back this fall!”

With one donation assisting up to three different patients in their critical time of need, Barker Lemar’s donation totals have touched close to 300 local lives, with a total of 90 donors throughout the course of the program.
